Oikos Sustainable Education
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” – Nelson Mandela
The business world is changing rapidly and many international organizations, business firms and governments show a trend of increasing demand for students and graduates equipped with knowledge on sustainability.
To meet this demand, traditional education and sustainability aspects should be brought together to give students a comprehensive view of challenges the world faces today and will face in the near future.
Hence, the mission of our team is to add more sustainability aspects into already existing subjects and teaching at WU Vienna.
To reach this goal, our team cooperates with the competence center for Sustainability Transformation and Responsibility (STaR) at WU Vienna, and cultivates a close relation to the Institute for Ecological Economics and the Society for Plural Economics Vienna, to just name a few. In addition, we are supported by the oikos international Curriculum Academy.
Our past achievements include:
- Conduction of an interview for the English Business Communication Institute at WU Vienna that will be used as listening comprehension and be available on Learn from WS 21/22 on!
- Pitch in front of the WU Rectorate
- Participation in the EAUC Virtual Global Climate Conference 2020
- Mention of our project in the Financial Times article
If you are interested in sustainability solutions being implemented in the curriculum at your university, join our project team!
We participated in the STaR video series about the SDGs where we could present our vision of sustainability at university and how we aim to achieve this. Within oikos, we aim at contributing to the achievement of SDG 4 - Quality of Education - by incorporating more sustainability-related topics in the business curriculum. With this we hope to shape the awareness of future decision-makers towards the importance of sustainability in the business world.
